Hola and Hello,
Remember how we talked about new life cycles and big announcements last week? Well, today is a big day for Austin Urban Technology Movement because we're launching a new corporate logo, website domain, and social network handles. We are so excited about this change! Because we have been rapidly expanding this and last year, we determined that it was important to represent the rapid growth and projected vision on our corporate image. AUTM's new acronym and social media handles have been changed to steer the organization away from displaying locality. AUTM has switched from autmtx to autmhq since program participants from all around the globe are now enrolling to get trained. We wanted our new logo to symbolize the unity and solidarity that we are getting through our supporters, as well as a bolder rendition that reflects the rising Global Majority. AUTMHQ has been successfully accomplishing its mission thanks to the aforementioned factors. Let us know what you think of our new, refreshed look on our social media pages. Voyage Austin: Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Ward Jr.
Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin? Looking back on my career, I realize that my desire to become a social entrepreneur began when I was a child. I had no idea what a social entrepreneur was at the time, but I knew I wanted to impact the world through solving problems. Fast-forward to my college years, I decided to double major in Political Science and Global Studies with a focus on social movements, trade, and international business at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. My plan had been to join the Peace Corps, work for the World Bank or the International Monetary Fund, and eventually become a US Ambassador, but life had other plans. During my senior year at UNC, an Oracle recruiter approached me and asked one simple question: “Have you considered working in technology?” This one question drove me into a profession in technology and altered the course of my life.

From $70,000 to $120,000: Here’s how much 3 software engineers earn around the U.S.
Tech jobs have become known for commanding high pay, thanks to an exploding need for people to build and manage the tech solutions we rely on every day, and a shortage of workers with the right emerging skill sets to keep pace. U.S. tech workers earned an average salary of $146,000 per year in 2020, according to a report from Hired, and can go much higher in competitive markets like San Francisco or New York. CNBC Make It spoke with three people around the country who recently started new software engineering jobs about how much money they make, how they negotiated their pay, and how they feel about their earnings. [Sarah from Austin, Texas] How do you feel about how much money you make? A year ago I was hired at $80,000 but recently got a $13,000 raise, so now I make $93,000 a year. I also earned a $2,500 performance bonus.
At $80,000 I was pleased but still ambitious to get more. Now at around $95,000 with my bonus, I’m really proud to be making what I make. Microsoft Teams enters the metaverse race with 3D avatars and immersive meeting Microsoft and Meta are on a collision course for metaverse competition
Microsoft is entering the race to build a metaverse inside Teams, just days after Facebook rebranded to Meta in a push to build virtual spaces for both consumers and businesses. Microsoft is bringing Mesh, a collaborative platform for virtual experiences, directly into Microsoft Teams next year. It’s part of a big effort to combine the company’s mixed reality and HoloLens work with meetings and video calls that anyone can participate in thanks to animated avatars.
With today’s announcement, Microsoft and Meta seem to be on a collision course to compete heavily in the metaverse, particularly for the future of work.

For Patrick Moran, who put in his two weeks’ notice at the end of October, job hunting has become a web of confusion given his unfamiliarity with professional networking online.
Moran, who is a production manager of a doughnut bakery in Rhode Island, said he has been struggling with constant turnover in staffing, long hours that start at 2 a.m., no benefits, and stress that got worse during the pandemic. Now he’s hoping to land a job that will meet a few basic requests: allow him to sit down in an office, work normal hours, and have some benefits. But the job search has been tough, and cold applying to jobs on company websites and online professional networking site LinkedIn has been relatively fruitless for him.

Ahead of Tesla move, Elon Musk tells Austin not to be a San Francisco 'copycat'
Interestingly, Austin went considerably further than San Francisco did in 'defunding the police. By Eric Ting
Tesla will be relocating its headquarters from the Bay Area to Austin, Texas, sometime in the near future, and CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to take another swipe at San Francisco on his way out.
In response to a Fox News article about a Tuesday special election in Austin to restore police department funding after it was cut last summer, Musk tweeted, "Austin should be its city, not a San Francisco copycat."
