Join the movement and paint your days extraordinary!
AUTMHQ UPDATES Hola and Hello! We are looking for the best muralist in Austin, Texas who would be willing to volunteer to paint our office mural. If you are interested or know someone who would like to immortalize their work, please have them email me at [email protected]. We will document their work and conduct an interview to promote them on our channels. On another note, we have exciting news to share. Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ) is already organizing the 2022 edition of "ReThink Austin: Leading by Action." I'm not kidding when I say this will be an event you don't want to miss! At the moment, I am not permitted to reveal the names of some of our guests, but I can say that many of them have had a significant impact on the world – and one of them has gone even farther, but that is all I can say at the moment. ?? I'd like to remind you to continue supporting our mission and, more importantly, to become the movement we need to reshape the tech ecosystem. You can help us by donating through our website, shopping on Amazon through AmazonSmile, and designating our organization as your charity of choice, or liking and following us on social media and engaging with our content. You can also go to change.org and sign our Texas Technology for All petition, then brag about it to your friends and family. Finally, be an outspoken advocate for diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. We appreciate all of your help in the past, but this is an ongoing task that requires more of your help and support.

What an empowering speech Rachel Lauren and Terry P. Mitchell delivered at the Brunch & Dream event on MLK Weekend!
On Saturday, January 16th, we gathered to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of our generation's greatest Black leaders. Encore ATX hosted the event, which was supported by the African American Leadership Institute, Soul.Citi, Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ), and Austin Area Urban League Young Professionals. We were delighted by the brunch prepared by Chef Martin Eason of Desire Catering, as well as the great music and the company of great Austin leaders. Rachel Lauren, Dream Corps' Senior Director of People and Culture, facilitated an empowering fireside chat with Terry P Mitchell on The Perils and Possibilities of Black Leadership. Through the experiences of these powerful women, this motivational speech delivered an empowering message: "We were always a part of the movement," Terry P Mitchell said. Despite roadblocks, we must follow leaders in order to achieve transcendental change. ________________________ ? If you want to become part of this movement, go to this link and become the movement!

Report: Labor market and talent gap cause tech recruiters to consider streamlining their practices
A tough tech labor market is forcing long-overdue changes to hiring processes, as 57% of tech recruiters are open to removing the CV from the recruitment process, according to a new report by CoderPad and CodinGame.
The report identified new ways that tech recruiters are navigating a tough labor market in which demand outweighs supply. Survey findings reinforce the idea that tech recruiters are hoping to widen the talent pool by decreasing reliance on traditional hiring requirements or limitations. 57% of recruiters are open to removing the CV from the recruitment process, while 40% are hiring internationally for roles in other countries. Additionally, the percentage of recruiters hiring developers from non-academic backgrounds has almost doubled, from 23% to 39% in one year alone. ________________________ ? [Michael and Susan Dell Foundation] Apprenticeships are Key to Helping Young People in India be Job-Ready
By Prachi Windlass and Akhil Gupta
Ashwani, a second-year student at a Haryana government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) worked for one year as a computer operator apprentice at Chanderpur Works — one of Yamuna Nagar’s largest engineering manufacturing establishments — before he was offered a permanent position there. He is one of the many apprentices in Haryana who have started their careers as apprentices after completing a vocational training course from one of the many ITIs in the state. While not every apprentice is as lucky as Ashwani to be hired after their apprenticeship, they all complete the program with more skills and are better equipped to work because of the hands-on experience they receive as part of the program.
The idea of an apprenticeship is not a new concept in India. The Apprentices Act in 1961 made it mandatory for every organization in India with 30 or more employees to hire 2.5-15% apprentices as part of its workforce. Further, the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) reimburses companies up to INR 1500 of their monthly stipends. And yet, India only produces 0.3 million apprentices a year, which is significantly less than other countries — such as Japan (10 million) or Germany (3 million) — that have been successful in implementing apprenticeship programs. India’s numbers are particularly low, considering the huge population and demography of more than 300 million people in the age group of 18 to 35.
