AUTMHQ UPDATES Hola and Hello! Happy February! I just read an article that talks about the power of smiling. Did you know that a smile requires the coordination of 43 muscles in our face? It's no surprise that it's considered a highly effective workout! Smiling increases mood-boosting hormones while lowering stress. It also decreases blood pressure overall. But because you smile when you're happy, the muscles you use encourage your brain to release more endorphins, a chemical that helps you feel better. It's also been said that smiling might help you live a longer life. So, if we want to be happy and healthy, perhaps we should start wearing gigantic smiles. I'm talking about the importance of smiling in this edition because I was buying groceries at a local convenience store a few days ago and I spontaneously smiled at a girl and remarked something about her gorgeous hair. Because several of us are still wearing face masks, her grin was only noticeable through her eyes, and we began chatting. She was wearing a Q2 Stadium face mask, so I inquired about it, and the conversation turned out to be a prospective partnership...all because of a smile. Believe it or not, many opportunities arise through interactions in which we are actively looking and actively listening. At Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ), we are committed to creating opportunities for our AUTMites to succeed in the tech industry. We make certain that they receive the mentorship necessary to earn a certificate, we provide the resources they require to pursue this journey, we assist with job placement, and when they achieve a milestone... it makes us SMILE!

The (R)evolution of Steve Job
Austin Opera is proud to present the Texas Premiere of Mason Bates and Mark Campbell’s The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, February 3, 5, & 6, 2022. This new take on the life of Apple pioneer Steve Jobs caused a sensation at its 2017 world premiere at Santa Fe Opera, and the live recording went on to win the 2019 Grammy for Best Opera Recording. According to Seattle Weekly, “Mason Bates’ score is unfailingly inventive and often gorgeous…”
Making his Austin Opera debut in the title role is baritone John Moore, praised by Stereophile as a “vocally and theatrically exceptional Steve Jobs.” Joining him in company debuts are Sarah Larsen (Laurene Powell Jobs), Bille Bruley (Steve Wozniak) and member of the Grammy-Award-winning cast Wei Wu (Kobun Chino Otogawa.) Plus, Madison Leonard, who triumphed as Gilda in 2019’s Rigoletto, returns to Austin as Chrisann Brennan.
It seems fitting that this groundbreaking new co-production created by Austin Opera, Atlanta Opera, and Lyric Opera of Kansas City will premiere in Austin, Texas, a city simultaneously known as “Silicon Hills” and the “Live Music Capital of the World.” Tomer Zvulun, the creator of Austin Opera’s award-winning production of Silent Night, returns to direct.
The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs is inspired by the life and creative spirit of Steve Jobs and does not purport to depict actual events as they occurred or statements, beliefs, or opinions of the persons depicted. It has not been authorized or endorsed by Apple Inc., the Estate or Family of Steve Jobs, or by any persons depicted therein.
Please note: A negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours or voluntary proof of vaccination presented at the venue is currently required to attend performances. For full COVID-19 attendance, protocols click here.
